Hold the Handrail
Despite the safety progress we’ve made, we have not yet created a deeply embedded culture where care and safety guide our actions at all times. The purpose of the stand down is for everyone in Network Rail to agree how we can make a step change in our basic behaviours – by reinforcing that safe behaviour is a requirement of working at Network Rail, and equipping staff with the confidence and tools to challenge unsafe practices and behaviour.
What do I have to do?
All people managers have been asked to make sure that their teams are invited to a stand down session in July. These will be interactive – so please do come prepared to contribute and share your views
What is a safety stand down and why are we doing this?
A stand down is time out from day-to-day work for an extraordinary event. In this case, the focus is on encouraging a culture of intervention and challenge where we see unsafe practices or behaviour.
