An outage is an interruption to a service. Planned outages are those that have been scheduled and agreed in advance and the dates and times are published. These outages are used for preventative maintenance and updates to hardware and software. They are scheduled not to interfere with known critical business periods and would normally be outside standard working hours. Unplanned outages occur as the result of service failures or emergency repairs.
