Long-term effective management of the impacts of weather and climate change is essential to the reliable and safe running of the railway. Key to achieving this are the WRCCA Strategy and the Western Route WRCCA Plan (2014).

The Western Route faces an average of circa 180k weather related delay minutes each year giving an annual average Schedule 8 cost of around £9m, annualised summaries of delay minutes and cost can be seen in the graphs below.
