HSE Fatigue and Risk Index (FRI) Calculator

The Fatigue Risk Index (FRI)
The Fatigue Risk Index (FRI) has been withdrawn from the HSE website. The reasons for this are:

The software platform is an older Excel that can no longer be supported on the HSE website.
The design of the FRI requires improvement to promote better understanding of its outputs, its limitations and its role in a Fatigue Management System.
In its current format, there have been case of the FRI being issued in order to justify work patterns that clearly require further action t reduce fatigue-relate risk.
FRI users who have access to the FRI in its current format can continue to use it, provided you have the necessary expertise to use the tool and understand the outputs and limitations.

Following feedback we are making the tool available, as well as how to documents, to aid with calculations.

Network Rail -Scotland June 2020 Leasons Learned (Safety Central)

The Scotland’s Railway Team provides powerful testimony on importance of safety

At 9am on November 14th 2019 three members of Network Rail staff had to jump out of the way of an approaching train travelling at 125mph on the West Coast mainline at Kirtlebridge in Dumfries and Galloway. Fortunately no one was injured and everyone went home safe that day. Following the near miss, a lessons learned workshop was carried out with the team involved in events that day. The team were really honest and transparent in sharing their experience and the emotional impact it had on them.

We are delighted to be able to share with you some of the comments and conversations from the team involved in the near miss which highlights the impact it had on them and the importance of always working safely.
