Q. What is a Red Zone?
A. You are not protected from train movements in a red zone. Instead you will be warned when a train is coming through various systems. Warnings are given so that you are in a position of safety at least 10 seconds before the train passes allowing you to reach a position of safety. There are five methods of warning, given here in order of preference:
Automatic track warning system (ATWS)
Train operated warning system (TOWS)
Lookout operated warning system (LOWS)
Pee Wee
Unassisted lookouts
