Accessing and Egressing Sites safely for OTM Operators
National Delivery Service's (NDS) Martin Douglas, working with OTM operators and Principal Contractors has developed a process map for train crew accessing and egressing worksites safely, i.e. getting the relevant safety information they require.
Drivers and operators are required to obtain all relevant safety information before entering a worksite so they understand the hazards such as vehicle movements, lines blocked under possession as well as worksite hazards such as deep excavations they may encounter and this is best done via a briefing.
A recent incident at Torworth (still under investigation) is an example where the IP failed to obtain a briefing and therefore did not understand the risks associated with the location where he was entering the infrastructure
.
After much discussion the attached process has been agreed.
